Rocktoberfest *
Rocktoberfest is the biggest climbing festival in the world, and I have the privilege to design the official logo for this incredible event. Having spent over a decade climbing in the Red River Gorge in Kentucky, I can’t think of a better way to use my skills to support the growth and stewardship of the climbing community there. For the past three years, I’ve been fortunate enough to donate the logo design to help promote and sustain this vibrant climbing culture. Thanks RRGCC!
2025 marks the 25th anniversary of Rocktoberfest! The USA’s largest climbing festival! The RRGCC has been stewarding climbing in the Red for nearly 30 years and we get to celebrate in a big way this year. The RRGCC just acquired 718 acres of land that they are actively developing for climbing. It’s the largest land purchase ever made by a climbing non-profit.
inspiration
We took a lot of inspiration from some of the first Rocktoberfest logos from way back in 2002-2003. The anniversary gift for 25 years is usually some kind of silver jewelry, we landed on the idea of chains and a filagree belt buckle. I even created a font from the old school poster to include in the design.
2024
2024 was, of course, an Olympic year. I really wanted to dig into that idea and bring it to the Rocktoberfest logo. The RRGCC logo is a carabiner with RRGCC in the middle, and lended itself very nicely to creating the Olympic rings.
The inspiration for this logo was taken from the 68 Mexico Olympics.
2023
This was the first logo I created for Rocktoberfest. At first we weren’t sure what direction we should go with it so I threw a few designs at them and one made an impression that got us on the road to where we landed. That was a a redesign of a Bulleitt bottle. When they saw that they told me that Knob Creek donated a barrel and was sponsoring some of the event, so naturally we had to make the logo a Knob Creek bottle.
